1. The work force is 1,200, of whom 35 percent are women.
2. 'The general director is named Csato(fnu),an old Communist, about 50 years old,
not very bright. The technical head is Engineer Bago (fnu), another long-time
Co uni st who lived in the USSR until' 1945 and got his, diploma there The ..Party
secretary is Janos Stiel, about 40 years old.
3. All military - quipment produced is of the Soviet model -and according to
d^adings coming from the USSR. Nothing but military equipment is now being
produced.
6. Large castings come from- outside the factory. The old- fotindry instoLliation
was dismantled by thae' Russians ' in 1945 and cax?rjed' off, ' and. although a new one
was completed in 1949, it can only handle small castings.
7. The pay-of a helper is 800-to-1.,000 forints, of a worker 1, 500 to 1,600 forints,
of a master worker up to 3,000 forints. .
8. The percentage of rejects reaches as high as.25 to 30. This-is caused-by the too-
rapid work tempo under the quotas . Statistical production is more important than
accuracy. In spite of this the current production at the factory is well-below

that in the past. An effort to rectify this condition has been kd ,e bya._._
regulation that workers will not be paid for time"spent in producing reSseted
articles, and will be charged.. for the materials used in them...

produced by the factory., it is now turning out a Russian model which is heavier
and more complicated.
10. The factory guard consists of 30 men.
