The state YDLasttransport"' (Truck transport) State Undertaking has its own
shop in Szoabathely, -which also often handles repairs on small Russian
electric: motors of five or six hp. The Pm-jose for which these motors are
used is unknown.
4. There are no private cars in Szombathely and its neighborhood. The last
privately owned trucks were seized in the fall of 1951. These, included
some 20 privately owned taxis, whose owners were summoned ~o Budapest
and informed that the state was taking over their cars at 1,000 to 1, 500
foriuta each,, for cars which in good condition would cost' X0,000 forints.
The owners automatically became state employees.
5. The Szombathely repair shop has seven lathes, one shaping machine and one drill.
There are many shortages
that of wrenches being peculiarly acute. 'There is
a continmal shortage of motor (Al. arid-work quotas are seldom fulfilled.
6. An apprentice gets 36 forints a week in theory, but so much of his time has
to be spent in `xvoluntary48 work that he can rarely make more than 120 forints
a month, Lwich _:is free, but usually consists only of beans or cabbage.

THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
.1. The 12 Auto Repair Shop State Undertaking is at 110szegi Street 10 in Szombathely.
Its head is a Com .ist, _fOrmer_ chauffeur. It hss about 80 workers, and
handles overhaul and repair on cars belonging to state factories and businesses.
Military care are handled only when the regular_itilitarry repair shops are full.
2. The best cars belong td the Army, and among them are considerable numbers of new
Czech "Tatra" and Russian 'Pobieaaa9 cars.
