STATSPEC
A monitor would have to be wonderfully inept and stupid to be
unable to master the few basic operations required to tune a
receiver and record programs with this equipment. I am not saying
that a monitor should be able to make full use of the equipment
because there are just too many combinations possible. To learn
all the combinations requires some knowledge of equipment which
the average monitor does not possess. I believe that with a simple
set of instructions, instructions which should not contain any
technical language, telling the monitor which keys to punch and
which switches to turn, any monitor should be able to work without
any supervision after a few days. I also believe that no control
head should be made available to a monitor. It becomes a crutch
which will prevent him from learning to use the remote features
of the equipment. My personal opinion is that the equipment is
easy to operate and reliable. I speak strictly from the operational
point of view.
STATSPEC
Operation easy to handle. For actual monitoring, would be better
to eliminate keys on keyboard not to be used for the operation. If the
machine needs to be made so it could be used for other more complicated
operations too, the keys not of direct interest to the monitor could be
covered with blank caps, or the symbol on them could be of different
color, so the system will be easier for monitor. The symbols themselves
could maybe indicate which step comes first and what it is for. Otherwise,
with a list of steps, the monitor can handle it okay anyway.
One time I tuned in a program with bad interference by hand and
thought there was some improvement, but I do not believe the difference
was really significant.
Would be better if some way could be found to lessen noise from
rtty and typewriter. Typewriter of course could be non-electric.
Maybe less noisy rtty could be provided.

MONITORIAL, COMMENT -
For rapid station changes, the equipment works fine. Eliminates
slow band change--particularly if monitoring some important item. If
reception is poor, but "do-able" I find that control head tuning is
better, and eliminates some steps. This would be necessary if it were
a question of losing as few words as possible on the belt.
