[Text] A number of the old type Jiangi-5 (later model MIG-17F) were
licensed for production and are now deployed as first line fighters. The
upper photograph shows Jiangi 5 fighters in readiness for attack within a
protective shelter. _
Some important planes of this same series are the multiseat Jiangiao 5 pilot
training planes which include a number of planes used for basic jet training.
This is a much mistaken point in that the multiseater produced in China is
not the MIG-15UTI but is the MIG-17.

LAN'LHOD UNITS PRESENT AWARDS TO PACESETTERS AND ADVANCED WORKERS

(Text] Wi.th a mandate from the central committee of the Co~nunist Youth
I.eague and the All-China Women's Federation, the Lanzhou Units on 30
October held a grand award ceremony for New Long March shock workers and
sti~ck brigades anc~ for "8 March" red-banner pacesetters and red-banner
collectives.
Awards went to seven naCional New March 51?ock workers and one shoc:k brigade
.and to three national "March 8" red-banner pacesetters and on red-banner
cc,l.l.ective. Tf~ese advanced units and individuals had a11 made outstanding
cc~ntribur.ions to the r~avolutionization and modernization of units on the
road oC tiie New Long March. The Communist Youth League branch of a cc~mpany
~in uiiidentlfic~d division of the Lanzhou Units, which was awarded the
honc~rable titJ.e of a New Long March shock brigade, had for a long time
reso.lutcly unfolded a movemenr to study Comrade Lei Feng and had led Youth
I,e~buc members on to the road of both red and expert and gotten them to
cvm~>etc r~ he New Long March shock workers. Since 1978, they have been
tak.in~ mi.litary training as the nucleus and organizing young people to
tmdertake such types of emulation drives as contended for the red banner,
striving to be No 1, getting inta military competitions, studying heroes,
matching records and breaking them and striving to be heroes. This aroused
enthusiasm in the training of soldiers and led to the achievement of ex-
cellent results in sucti classes as firing of individual pieces and firing
of .light weapons, with tY~e result that more than 20 Youth League members
received awards for meritorious service and 5 were selected as good examples
for train:ing. For. e:;arnplf~9 t:i-~ere was the case of Ruan Dezhen, deputy
ct~iet of Dispensary IJo 3 a: a certain hospital of the Lanzhou units, who was
awarded the honorable title of Nati.onal "8 March" red-banner pacesetter.
SufEering frcm rectal cancer, shw waged a brave and stubborn �ight against
f~er illness and resolved to give avervthing s}ie had during her remaining
time to ttie medical science of the motherland. In the last four years, she
struggled for every minute and every second, went all out in her work,
wrote three articles based on the effective performance of inedica,'. work
and trans.lated 59 foreign-language items, efforts which were well received
by the medical departments. There was also the case of Shi Honglin, a

fighter in the repair shop of an unidentified unit who received the honorable
title of Natior.ial New Long March Shock Worker. Ever diligent in thE: study
of work techniques, in repairing old things and in using re~ects, he was
able to assemble and reco~Ter 1,075 pieces of machinery and equipment,
sto~age batteries and tires.

Xiao Hua [5135 5478], First Political Commissar of the Lanzhou Units, and
other leadership comrades attended the meeting and presented awards to the
Ntw Long March shock workers and the "8 March" red-banner pacesetters and
to tt~e representatives of the New Long March shock brigades and the "8
March" red-banner collectives. There were also citations at the meeting
for 9 advanced Youth League work committees, 40 advanced Youth League
branches, 179 outstanding Youth League members and 80 outstanding ycuth
work cadres, all of whom had come to the fore during the movement to create
advanced Youth League branches and to get young people to strive to be out-
standing Youth League members.
