The findings of this estimate have been generally sub-
stantiated by sugsequent events. De Gaulle has more or less
followed the policies suggested in the paper. However, the
French reaction to the setting up of a Provisional Algerian
Government proved to be more moderate than anticipated.
French relations with Morocco and Tunisia have not been dis-
rupted, although they are by no means satisfactory. As
indicated in the estimate the US base position in Morocco has
remained precarious.
