Stability of the Present Regime in Iran

SNIE 34-58 was written in the aftermath of the overthrow of the
Nuri regime in Iraq. Its language reflected the sense of urgency of
the time and overstated the immediacy of the threat to the Shah's
regime. We believe, however, that the generally pessimiptic basic
estimate in SNIE 34-58 as to the long-term outlook for the Shah's
regime remaind valid.
