2, At this time, lack of definitive information prevents our
reaching a firm conclusion as to the success of the launching beyond
its initial stages.
3. A probe can reasonably take up to four days to reach the
vicinity of the moon but oae and one-half to two days Is more likely.
It could take the Soviets many hours to determine the degree of
uuccess before any announcement could be made. In case of a failure
to achieve some spectacular results no Soviet announcement is expected.
