DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE
Security Committee
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE
2 4 MAR 1,311
1. The recent book, "The Science of Electronic Surveillance"
by John S. VanDewerker, was discussed at the March meeting of the
Research and Development Subcommittee. It was the consensus of
the R&D Subcommittee that a short damage assessment should be
prepared to provide some official assessment of the damage to our
security interests that may have been caused by this publication.
2. Since damage assessments appear to be a more appropriate
task for your Subcommittee than for the R&D Subcommittee, I would
like to suggest that your Subcommittee undertake this task. We
will be happy to provide any assistance that you may need in
performing this damage assessment.
