The Director met with the Mahon Defense Subcommittee of House Appropriations Committee for the second day's session at one o'clock which concluded at 3:50 p. m. The Director pointed out that this was the briefing he got each morning and that In effect similar briefings were concurrently made for the president and the Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense. The group seemed most interested and asked a number of questions about this and the Daily Bulletin. d about the possibility of French recognition of Communist China and the Director discussed this in some detail. Thor* were no comments by the members on this discussion. 4. The remainder of the session was devoted to a question and answer period. Mr. Whitten stated that he was "Impressed with the objective view of the DC2 and he felt it was the most informative briefing over from Cam,.
