SUBJECT: DCI Briefing of CIA Subcommittees of Senate Armed
Services and Senate Appropriations Committees -
Tuesday - 19 May 1964
1. The Director, accompanied by Messrs. Cline and Warner,
met with the CIA Subcommittees of Senate Armed Services and Senate
Appropriations Committees at 5:30 p. m. for approximately an hour
and a half. Present from the Subcommittees were:
Senator Richard B. Russell
Senator Leverett Saltonstall
Senator Carl Hayden
Senator John Stennis
Senator Milton R. Young
Present from the staff was William Darden. Prior to the briefing,
there was a technical sweep of the room. No transcript was taken.
2. The Director stated he wished to discuss Viet Nam and
to start it off he thought it appropriate to read a part of his briefing
at the last meeting with the Subcommittees on 10 January 1964 shortly
after his return from Viet Nam. The portion he read was as follows:
