Approved For Release 2006/08/14: CIA-RDP82T00285R00020 ..a a w MEMORANDUM FUR: See Distribution r..c1 k 4., i1 SUBJECT . Clarification on Requesting Imagery Analysis Assistance REFERENCES (a) 'My Memo, Subject: Requesting Imagery Analysis Assistance, OIA-90/78, Dated 20 October 1978 (b) Memorandum from Chief, RES/NFAC, Subject: CIA Requirements for Detailed Imagery Exploitation and Graphics Support, Dated 31 July 1978, F -1 1.,, My memorandum of 20 October 1978 (ref a) discussed changes in the procedure you, or analysts "in your component, use to request imagery analysis assistance from the Office of Imagery Analysis. In paragraph 4 of that memorandum I made a broad-brush attempt to differentiate between the type of imagery analysis assistance provided to NFAC analysts by DIA, and the -type of imagery support which NPIC provides-the intelli- ODence community.. The NFAC Requirements and Evaluation Staff (RES) has expressed its cpncern.that this paragraph provides incorrect guidance to NFAC offices. 2. Specifically, at about the middle of paragraph 4, 1 wrote: "As is now the case, requests for immediate readouts of missions or large 45 area searches should go directly to NP.IC." The word "directly" -se-ems-to- he the problem -- RES points out that analysts cannot deal directly with URIC on first and second phase exploitation requirements since such requirements are instituted via the COMIREX Automated Management System(' (`I -111d analysts do not have access to CAMS. Thus, -these requirements must (io to RES for implementation. Additionally, analysts should not levy )earth" requi rernents directly on NPIC, as this is an EXSUBCOM function. Search" requirements should be surfaced in EXSUBCOM. by the CIA member.
