UNUSUAL SA-10 SITE CONFIGURATION
NOVOSIBIRSK, USSR (S)
1. (S/D) An unusual SA-10 site configuration has been identified at Novosibirsk SAM Site
B28-2 0 Figure 1), where an SA-10 battalion has been positioned outside of its
protective revetments for nearly a year. The battalion consists of a row of six towed SA-10
launchers positioned approximately 75 meters in front of a transportable-electronics-tower-
mounted SH-EL-02 engagement radar. A tower-mounted SH-EL-01 acquisition radar is approxi-
mately 175 meters forward of the launchers. The launchers and the radars are cable-connected to
probable support vehicles inside an old SA-2 missile support building. Although the purpose of
this arrangement is unknown, the configuration may indicate field training or operational field
deployment.
2. (S/D) Novosibirsk SAM Site B28-2 was converted to an SA-10 site during 1980, when
trapezoidal launch revetments replaced the SA-2 revetments. The launchers were initially placed
in the trapezoidal revetments when the SA-10 equipment arrived in March 1981. A month later,
the launchers were removed from the revetments and repositioned in their current arrangement.
