1.' (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: NORTH YEMEN GROUND FORCES DEPLOYMENTS
IN RESPONSE TO NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC FRONT INSURGENCY
OPERATIONS.
(S/D) REMARKS: NORTH YEMEN GROUND FORCES WERE DEPLOYED IN
THE AN NADIRAH AREA OF NORTH YEMEN, APPROXIMATELY 90 NM
SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF SANA ON 22 APRIL (FIGURE 1). THESE
FORCES, CONSISTING OF INFANTRY SUPPORTED BY AT LEAST TWO
TANKS, 16 ARMORED VEHICLES, TEN CARGO TRUCKS, AND 34
UNIDENTIFIED VEHICLES, WERE DEPLOYED IN NINE STRONGPOINTS
(ONE ON FIGURE 2) ALONG THE WEST BANA RIVER. IN ADDITION, A
BASE CAMP AND A POSSIBLE HEADQUARTERS CONTAINING SIX ARMORED
VEHICLES, 20 UNIDENTIFIED VEHICLES, AND EIGHT LARGE
RECTANGULAR TENTS WAS OBSERVED IN THE AREA (FIGURE 3).
FORCE UNITS IN THIS AREA.

REPORTEDLY CONDUCTING OPERATIONS AGAINST NORTH YEMEN GROUND
