SONGLIN SPACE LAUNCH SITE. A, CHINA
1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: ADDITIONAL DETAILS ARE DISCERNIBLE ON THE
LONG MARCH 3.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: FINS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED NEAR THE BASE OF THE
FIRST STAGE TO THE NEW THREE-STAGE LONG MARCH 3 SPACE LAUNCH
VEHICLE (SLV) AT SONGLIN SPACE LAUNCH SITE A. INS
APPARENTLY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED SINCE THE 25X1
MISSILE, WITH PAYLOAD, IS ASSEMBLED ON THE LAUNCH STAND.
SERVICE GANTRY ARMS SECTIONS ARE AROUND PART OF THE SECOND
STAGE AND PAYLOAD SECTION. THE INSTALLATION OF FINS TO THIS
NEW SLV IS A CONTINUATION OF THE COMPATABILITY TESTING OF THE
SLV AND THE LAUNCH FACILITY THAT HAS BEEN IN PROGRESS SINCE THE
COMPLETION OF THE LAUNCH SITE IN LATE-FEBRUARY 1982.
(S/D) THE LONG MARCH 3 IS A THREE-STAGE DERIVATIVE OF THE
TWO-STAGE CSL-2 DESIGNED FOR LAUNCHING SATELLITES INTO
GEOSYNCHRONOUS ORBITS.
