1. S D SIGNIFICANCE: THIS SOVIET BIVOUAC FIRST IDENTIFIED ON
IS BEING DISMANTLED. 25X1
2. (S/D) REMARKS: DISMANTLEMENT ACTIVITY HAS BEEN IN PROGRESS
SINCE ONLY THREE SEMIPERMANENT TENTS REMAIN ERECT 25X1
AT THIS INSTALLATION. THE TAC POL STORAGE FACILITIES ARE IN
THE PROCESS OF BEING REMOVED, AND SUPPLIES ARE NOT OBSERVED IN
THE OPEN STORAGE/SUPPORT AREA. THE DEFENSIVE POSITIONS ON THE
OUTER PERIMETER ARE NOT OCCUPIED. IN ADDITION, ELEMENTS OF TWO
MOTORIZED RIFLE COMPANIES HAVE DEPARTED THE VEHICLE PARK AND
HAVE ASSEMBLED AT THE BIVOUAC ACCESS ROAD. SUPPORT VEHICLES
WITH TRAILERS ARE ASSEMBLING FOR DEPARTURE ON THE NORTHWEST
(NOT ON GRAPHIC) AND SOUTHEAST SIDES OF THE BIVOUAC.
ADDITIONALLY, A SOVIET COMBAT FORCE IS IN CONVOY MOVING
SOUTHEAST ON THE MAIN ROAD FROM AQCHEH (NOT ON GRAPHIC).
EQUIPMENT IN CONVOY INCLUDES AT LEAST 31 BTR-60/70 ARMORED
PERSONNEL CARRIERS (APC), THREE PROBABLE BMP APC, FIVE PROBABLE
122MM HOWITZER D-30, AND 55 TRUCKS. THIS CONVOY MAY INCLUDE
ELEMENTS OF UNITS WHICH DEPARTED MAIMANA AIRFIELD 25X1
100 NM WEST OF AQCHEH, ON 25X1
AQCHEH IS APPROXIMATELY 30 NM SOUTH OF THE USSR-AFGHANISTAN
BORDER AND 70 NM WEST OF MAZAR-I SHARIF.
