1. (S/WN) The correlation of information from imagery and open sources has led to the
identification of new portable frontline command post shelters in China. The framework for these
shelters has been seen in at least three military installations (Figure 1 and Table 1). One of these
installations houses an artillery regiment, one an infantry division headquarters, and the third a
surface-to-surface missile (SSM) division headquarters, indicating that the shelter has many uses
and may already be widely deployed. The SSM division headquarters is in the Kunming Military
Region (MR), and the other two facilities are in the Lanzhou MR.
2. (S/WN) The shelters-which are easily disassembled and transported by road, rail, or
air-consist of U-shaped supports connected with straight members at the base, sides, and top
center. The length of the shelter is apparently variable, depending on need. Assembled sections

versatility, these shelters form a linear configuration suitable for emplacement in trenches and
may enable rapid construction of concealed, possibly semihardened, command post bunkers.
3. (U) According to open-source publications,',' the shelter (insets and Figures 2 and 3) has
a canvas-covered arched steel framework. It is available in three sizes and is capable of housing a
