REFERENCE: Pfeiffer letter to Director Federal Archives
and Record Center, Laguna Niguel, California
3 July 1979, sub: Request for copy of Nixon
memorandum of his meeting with Fidel Castro
on 19 April 1959
1. On 17 July 1979, I had a call from Mr. Rossman of
the Laguna Niguel, California, Archives and Records Center
to tell me that he had talked with Mr. Nixon's research people
about the referenced memorandum. They had advised Mr. Rossman
to have me request a copy of the memorandum which Mr. Nixon
wrote about his 19 April 1959 meeting with Fidel Castro. directly
to Mr. Nixon. Mr. Rossman gave me Mr. Nixon's addresss as
Casa Pacifica, San Clemente, California', 92672.
2. Following Mr. Rossman's call, I attempted to contact
C/ SS, but since he was on leave, I called
EO DDA for his opinion about writing to Nixon. I told
that I was calling because I didn't know if the
Agency had any restrictions about contacting the former
President. I described the memorandum that I was seeking,
STAT and told about the call and advice that I had
received from Mr. Rossman.
3. Neither nor I could think of any reason
for not writing the letter, so I told that I would
be writing to Mr. Nixon -- on Agency letterhead and as the CIA
Historian. I added that if he had any contrary
thoughts to let me know.
