I have been in Iowa attending to my father's funeral for
the first couple of weeks of September. Upon my return, I read
George Esser's September 6 letter to me with great interest.
I wanted you to know- promptly that I am extremely honored
to be considered a candidate for membership in the National
Academy of Public Administration and therefore agree to have
my name submitted for possible selection. I am taking this
route of responding since I have been unavailable for personal
contact for some time now. If, however, a member of the
Committee does call, I will inform them of my affirmative
