1. Jamming of ( Clandestine ) Radio 15 September in Spanish to Nicaragua in-
creased throughout July, and toward the end of the month the transmission, which
had started to include occasional messages in code and in the Miskito language,
was largely unintelligible.
2. The bureau has added to coverage on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the first
half-hour of Caracas Radio Rumbos' morning newscast ( 1530-1600 GMT ), which in-
cludes a daily commentary by the Venezuelan Chamber of the Radiobroadcasting In-
dustry, to supplement voice coverage of Venezuela, and the morning newscast of
Managua Radio Corporacion Mondays through Fridays in response to a request for
expanded coverage of this transmitter. Arrangements have also been made to cover
a new Managua Sistema Sandinista Television Network talkshow, "In Depth," which
is broadcast irregularly on Sundays. Whenever the program is carried, it is fed
to the bureau the following morning.
3. Cruising activities during the month included:
a. Confirmed new frequencies for retimed Moscow broadcasts in Spanish to
Chile.
b. Checked Havana broadcasts on 550 Khz in response to a Headquarters re-
quest prompted by reports of increased transmitter power.
c. Following reports that San Jose Radio Noticias del Continente broadcasts
were being heard in the Costa Rica-Nicaragua border area, an updated cruising
check was made of the stations which were reportedly members of an "Interna-
tional Solidarity Network" to support the station following its closure. The
results of the-check were negative.
d. Santiago Chile Domestic Service was audible toward the latter part of
the month between 1200-2330 GMT with fair to poor reception.
