II. OPERATIONS

1. The bureau began interviewing and testing applicants

2, The attempt on President Reagan's life predictably generated
a considerable volume of reaction in area media, all of it condemning
the incident to one degree or another.
3, Special staffing was arranged to cover live the inauguration
of General Viola as president of Argentina on the morning of 29 March
when the bureau is not normally open. The inauguration of the new term of
Augusto Pinochet, president of Chile, with its attendant speech, ceremonies,
etc, also caused considerable translation volume.
B, Cornrnunications
There was a 3 and 1~2 hour schedule outage of the primary .circuit
on 4 March for repairs to the antenna at the chancery.
