The manifesto then goes on to stigmatize "that provocation," while adjuring "the mass of tenants to persist with increased enthusiasm in defending their right to live." The Committee ended by stating that it belonged to no group or party and would continue to hold meetings to the end. Yesterday, the Committee received testimonials of sympathy and fellowship from the majority of the leaders of parties and organizations. Quarters' committees were spontaneously formed throughout the city and sent telegrams to the authorities supporting the Committee's demands to defend the Tenants.
