At the beginning of January most of he local help (janitors, cleaning woman) ns dismissed and replaced by Puellan soldiers. The numerous Russian de- pendents in the city are carefhlle Insulated from contact with the local population, and attend only Russian motion-picture homes and a Russian theatee. The number of children en the Russian schools is given as several hundred. ? 2. Most of the troops in the city of Liemitz veer tank insignia. About one third of the uniformed personnel ere seen In Polish uniform, but are alleged to be in fact Russians. In Octob:-r 1949 there was a large-scale rep/acenent of troops after repeated had behavior by soldiers who had been stationed there up to four years. On the outskirts of Liegnitz to tba north a large vehicle park was observed containing some hundreds of vehicles. Most of these uere covered with straw, so that it could not be determined whether they were armored or not.
