M TING OF ELECTRICAL i ACHINE-BUIiDING AND TRA'NNSFOBMER INDUSTRY
a meeting, at LEW
(Locomotive Construction and Electrical Goods ant) in Hennigsdort, oe wcen representatives
of the Ministry 'or Machine-Building, Main Administration fore Electrical Products, and of
the electrical machine-building and transformer industry, dealing with. fulfillment of the
production plan for March 1951 and the outlook for April at the following plants:
1) TRO(Oberschoeneweide Transformer Plant) exceeded its Marchquota by 3.9 percent, with a
production valued-at Lt.9million DM. The April quota is 4 million DM. A detailed account is
given of the plant's material requirements and procurement difficulties. Bar steel, thin-
gauge plate, heavy and medium plate constitute the major procurement bottlenecks. There is
also a critical shortage of DIN (German industrial standard) parts.
2) ELiMO (Dessau Electric Motor and Compressor Plant). The March quota, 50,COO DM, was not
fulfilled. However, it is expected that the April quota of 380,000 DM will be exceeded, with
an output valued at 500,000-600,000 DM. The plant has no difficulties with construction work
or procurement of machinery. Its material requirements are covered for April and up to mid-
May. The plant will have to discharge 300 surplus workers because of insufficient orders.
3) Wernigerode Plant. Following an account of general problems and onerations, in which it
is stated that total capacity is only 60 percent utilized and that procurement of gray cast
iron, screws, and ball and roller bearings constitutes a bottleneck, a detailed breakdown is
given of March production (planned and actual) for various types of motors. Of the o,LL37 motors
scheduled for the 1st quarter 1951, the plant produced 5,978 motors, or 70 percent of the quota
A detailed report is included onihe plant's financial status and investments.
11) The Kjellberg and Fimag Plants in I'linsterwalde. Both plants fulfilled their March quotas
by 113 percent. Procurement bottlenecks are: welding wire for electrodes, casing materials,
gray cast iron, screws, welding cable (70 and 95 sq mm). There was a decrease in work
productivity in both plants during the lst quarter 1951.
Y
5) The Dresden Transformer Plantulfilled its March quota by 111 percent. The following
materials are in short supply for the 2nd quarter 1951: transformer plate, steel tubing, screws
iron and steel, porcelain.
6) LEW, Hennigsdorf. The lst quarter 1951 production quota was only 74.9 percent fulfilled.
Procurement bottlenecks: tubing and cable material.

7) VEM (VVB for Electricali?i ac':ine-Building) Schiffselektrik (electrical equipment for ships)
in Rostock. This plant fulfilled its March quota by 117.$ percent, and expects to fulfill the
April quota by 113.6 percent. Material bottlenecks: cable, starters and starter pinions. The
.plant needs additional operating funds for April.
8) VEM Berlin. The quota for firms in this Federation was 96 percent fulfilled in the first
quarter 1951. Material bottleneck* high-voltage cable for the Calbe plan ,.,,Other subjects
discussed included decline in production orders and reduction of personnel. 50X1-HUM
