Approved For Release 2002/08/15 : CIA-RDP83-00415RO10600170006-9 SECRET/CONT.,OL - U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY SECURITY INFORMATION 25X1X 25X1A German Democratic Republic KIRCHMOSER PLANT TO STAR`1' TANK ASSEMBLY WORK (1 p; German; 25X1A Comment: The report refers to the plant as Blechwalzwerk V Tilly Becker 25X1 C SAG Soviet-Corporation). According to other available information, the plant is a VEB (people-owned plant) subordinate to the VVB 1i `Z (Federation of People-Owned Rolling and Drawing Mills). 25X1X This document, I gives the f ollowing informa- tion on the Willy Becker SAG Sheet Rolling Mill in Kirch-noeser: Tank assembly operations are to be started in this plant, in addition to the tank repair work which is being done there at present. The tanks to be assembled are not of the type of former German tanks, but seem to be of Czech origin because all the incoming shipments of tank parts have been arriving from Czechoslovakia. These parts are stored in the shop adjacent to the tank repair shop; the shop has been included in the Soviet-controlled area and is under guard. Before the tank parts were stored, the shop was cleared of its installations, equipment, and machinery. This shop con- tained a thin-sheet rolling milli which has been transferred to the Brandenburg Steel and Rolling Mill. The tank parts which arrived from Czechoslovakia do not belong to any tank type which the Soviets have employed in East Germany to date. Armament Zo-f the tanks to be assemble will consist of^ 105 mm gun with exhaust-gas recoil brake. The tank parts are not yet being assembled, but shipments of parts continue to arrive. The motor vehicle repair xbu& shop in Kirchmoeser has been transferred to the former Opel-Blitz Truck Plant) now called SIS fIS Assembly Plant, in Brandenburg/ Havel. Discontinuation of the motor vehicle repair shop at Kirchmoeser has increased the tank repair capacity to the point where, at present, 26 tanks can be handled for general repairs while at the same time light repair work can be done on an equal number of tanks. It is planned to transfer all sheet-rolling mills of the former 5i 7 Willy Becker plant to the Brandenburg/Havel Steel and Rolling Mill within the near future, thereby further increasing the Kirchmoeser plant's capacity for tank repairx.
