GDR PIG IRON PRODUCTION (1 p; German; unnc,; tea)
FDD Abstract
This document reports excerpts of rI tr eeing of the State Planning Commission,
held on iL Decefiber 1951) where the plann.r?.- problems of the Ministry for Foundries
and Ore I-lining were discussed, Minister a= Ibj,jann declared that he could not accept
the proposed plan figures for 1953 and 1,), -) particularly those for rolled steel,
crude steel, and pig iron. After discuss.-)n,. it wa~> decided that Binz, State Secretary
for Material Supply,is to make an exact }nc~ critical report of the 1952 and 1953
balance for rolled and crude steel, and. ig=iron. However, investments cannot be
increased, and steel production must et r =ire increased or machine pro ciuction de-
creased.
Mr. Selbmann said that the general.-cig'-iron situation is not favorable, but
some relief has started since the .fol.louLnn- daily tonnages are now being produced:
130 at Maxhuette, 140 at Calbe, 160 at W- (Mctallurgicgl Combine East). and 60 at
DonauwoerthL!7. Mr. Selbmann emphasiz?E that the pig iron is now of good quality.
The difficulties still existing at I KO .re mostly of outside apparatuses,
particularly mechanical conveyers. Howev'.r, it is hoped that daily tonnage Td-ill soon
reach 200. On the average, 320 tons pigdron are delivered daily to the Ministry
of Machine Building.
It was also decided, ft at since the entire steel casting capacity of the GDR
is not being used, offers steel cash,~n on a contract bads should be made to
Poland and Czechoslovakia,
The Secretariat for Foreign 'irade 1..ou-[-c- investigate what steps have been taken
to import more pig iron.
