OFFICIALS ONLY SECURITY INFORiNATION 25X1A German Democratic Republic FDD Abstract of _ BERLIN-KOEPENIK BOAT YARD (2pp; German; :.ate 1951) 25X1X This document c6nsists of a carbon copy of an agent's report on the VI,B (People- Owned Enterprise) Yachtwerft (Boatyard), Berlin-Koepenik, and contains the following, information: This VEB comprises three yards: the Ergelbrecht Yard, which makes speed boats for the Sea Police and harbor boats for the Sea Police and the HVDVP (Main Administra- tion for People's Police); the Brumm Yard, which makes fishing cutters, goz:irier boats, and small craft for the HVS (Main Administration for Shipbuilding); and the Ernst Yard, which makes sport craft. The apprentice shop is at the Ernst Yerd. The 1951 quota, which waa fulfilled, was : 6 SK's (Sea Cutters); 20 Police or harbor boats; 30 Fishing cutters; 13 Courier boats; 92 Small craft. The three yards have two milling machines, 12 lathes, about 150 boring machines, and about 150 other processing machines. The three yards, including the VEB administration, have 1,452 workers; there are also 150 office workers and 5L. designers. The Engelbrecht Yard works two ten-hour-- shifts, the other two yards one eight-hour shift. Raw materials come from the GDR, except for sheet metal and special sections which are imported from the West. Jost of the fishing cutters go to the USSR as re-,.rations at a price eaual to one-third of the cost; the rest go to HVS and HVDVP. The prices per boat (in Deutsche marks) are approximately as follows: fishing cutter, 230,000; SK, 1,400,000; police or harbor kmm boat, 35,000; courier boat, 55,000; small craft, 1,200. There are 120 People's Police on guard duty at the yards. The yards have no railroad connections; freight is brought in from the Koepenik freight station by road or waterway. Some of the important personnel are: Ernst Thiel, director, about 50, SED (Socialist Unity Party) Herbert Schulz, technical director, about 32, SEP Bruno Erzmoneit, production chief, about 45, SED Eisenklamm, business manager, about 45 Helmut Fugmann, about 52 years old.
