Approved For Release 2002/08/15 : CIA-RDP83-00415R011200090004-3 SZCRET/CONTROL - U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY SECU.,:ITY INFO1 tiiATION 25X1X German Democratic Republic FDD Abstract of SCRAP, OLLEIJ IRON, AN PIPE SHORTAGES (2 gip; uerrnan; undated) 25X1A This typewritten document can be divided into three pats. 1, SAG (Soviet Corporation) Bleichert, Leipzig, produces bridges and conveyor equipment for the USA?,. The plant suffers from severe shortages of cast iron, steel castings, rolled iron, and small material. The Soviet management has order- ed a search for suitable materials in all accessible Nast German plants. Materials found are to be reported to Director Andreyev of the ZKVt.Veissensee for requisi- tioning. 2, All Land governments and ministries which had received allocations for rolled iron CCrom the State Secretariat of Material Supply . had their quotas cut by approximately one-third because available capacities and raw materials were not even sufficient to complete the most important constructions under way. The fol- lowing are considered as the most important constructions: 1) one large coking plant at Lauchhamrner/T`test; another one is planned. 2) Metallurgical Combine Last, Fuerstenberg/Oder. 3) Metallurgical Combine West, Calbe/Saale. 4) Four SAG enter- prises. 5) Four other key constructions. 6) Other important industrial construc- tions. The Lauchhammer Plant needs 120,000 tons of rolled iron, but only 90,000 tons could be made available and only if the abovementioned quota cut is carried out. There is not enough scrap available for the Lauchhammer, Fuerstenberg, and Calbe plants to fill their orders. The scrap situations in 'past Germany is get- ting continuously worse. (Some details are given on the scrap situation at the Brandenburg, Riesa, Hennigsdorf, and Fuerstenberg plants.) DHZ (German Trade Center) - Gera, Metallurgy, Pipes. Total requirements of seem- less boiler pipe and high-pressure pipe can be met only Eby?f our percent. The only East German supplier for these pipes is the Riesa plant. All pipes over 110 and under 40 millimeters in diameter which cannot be supplied by the Riesa plant, must be imported. However, little import is expected and it is feared that pre- vailing conditions will lead to the use of secondary quality materials, formerly rejects, in order to meet the most pressing demands. 25X1A ZT-he foreign langua e document or a microfilm of it 25X1 A Library, 25X1A SECRET/CONTROL - U.S. OFFICIALS ONLY 21 May 1952 4 Approved For Release 2002/08/15 : CIA-RDP83-00415R011200090004-3
