DATA ON COI 'RUCTION OF A MERCHANT SHIP TYPE IIa (5 pp; German; February 1952)
25X1A
The document is a typewritten copy of the minutes of a conference which
took place in the Directorate General on 20 February 1952 on the subject of
construction of an ocean-going ship, type IIa. The minutes are dated 21 February
and are issued by the Designing Office of the Directorate General. They include
the following informations:
The chief dimensions of the vessel (overall length 115,00 meters, width over
frames 15.50 meters, height of decks 9.40 and 6.70 meters, draught 6.50 meters,
displacement 7,110.126 cubic meters); speed(12 - 12.5 knots); engine capacity
(2,400 BHP); and loading capacity (4,200 tons of bulk goods).
The conference further discussed the best ratio of fuel to cargo space. It
was mentioned in this respect that the vessel would be used for occasional cruises
to Zanzibar and Argentina (La Plata) in which case it would have to carry 6,400
tons of fuel, based on a radius of action of 15,000 nautical miles or a travel
period of 52 days. In regular operations the vessel will be used for cruises
to the &evant coast for which it will carry 2.v700 tons of fuel. Questions of
the arrangement of cargo holds, water tanks, and loading equipment were likewise
discussed. Rumanian mazut and Polish black-coal were mentioned as alternatives
for fuel.
