in Warsaw(No.13 Mazowiecka St.) Eng4eer Masztakowski is the
chief ?dx director. There is a district ag-ncy in every city
of the province : pith a director at its head. The foMowing
divisions are responsible to each director:
A) The Wholesale division, with a chief,lin charge, v lesales
tires, bicycles and motorcycles:(Thltyk-Junak and S.H.L. 125 ''
besides the parts of automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles.
It services the whole province. Fifty persons are employed by
this organization. Twenty per cent are handlers, dispatch clerks
and warehouse help. The rest work in the office.
b) The Area Retail Selling Office(TBSD), with a chiefkin charge
-_s engaged in selling the above named products to the following
individ"al costumers: The State Farm Husbandry(PGR), The Farmers'
Self'-aid, The Cooperatives and other organizations that require
a large fleet of automobiles. Each province has one TBSD. Twenty
persons are employed by the TBSD.

The BSR buys automobile wrecks and automobiles in need of major overhaul.
When a customer turns in an automobile, he receives a receipt which allows
him to purchase a reconditioned automobile of the same make and tonnage.
The price for a reconditioned automobile is approximately 40,000 Zloty
varying with the tires, equipment and etc. The turned in automobile is
evaluated, and after approx.. th ree months, the customer receives payment
for it; that is, if the ZST agrees with the evaluation. The average customer
usually receives a reconditioned automobile about three months after turn-
some
ir in his other one. However, on/occasxions a new automobile is received
the same day.
The Transportation Vehicle Garage(ZST) is engaged in major automotive overhaul
It servides various makes of automobiles including: GMC, Studebaker, Ford6
Ford Canada, Willys, Fordson, Bedford, Dodge, Renault xm& Zis, and Gaz. The
Chief Directorate of the ZST is in Warsaw. Under its jurisdiction are shops
spread all over Poland which specialize in certain makes. ror example, kkx

Aleksandrowo Kujawskie - Studebaker; iii. the vicinity of Lowicz - GMC and
Y9illys; Kielce - Ford, Kalisz and Dodge; Warsaw and Lublin - Zis, Gaz,
'Radow and Renault;.
The ZST is trying to reproduce parts for the American automobiles acquired
through the UNRRA. However, there has. been little success so far, and ther'_-
fore American automobiles, once the transportation mainstay for business
and management, are gradually disappearing. For example, bearings for the
GMCs which were makm frxxxR xkxk made through Soviet technical assistance
last only for about two months. The lack of original roller bearings is
showing its effect. The bearEAREL in the Czechoslovakian private auto-

the Skoda Tudor and Sedan, are produced in Sweden by the SKF*X. They are
shipped to Poland through Czechoslovakia. At the present time, the ZST

tai l s and reissues about 50% of all the cars it receives for
repair.
New types of vehicles appearing in Poland are:
Skoda Tudor - It is a private automobile; of light weight and poorly balanced
It runs approximately 30 miles on a gallon of gasoline.
Skoda Sedan - same as above.
Skoda Disel - xi 7.5 tons; runs on diesel oil; More of thes are appearing
every day.
Prago Disel - 3.5 tons; runs on diesel oil; appearing in larger numbers.
Jawa motorcycle - 250 ccm and 350 ccm displacement; The MO and UB have
priority to these motorcyles; A small number are privately owned.
Skoda autobud (P.K.S.) Star 20, 3.5 tons, is produced in Starachowice.
Models 500 to 1500 contained many flaws, but to=:se have been corrected
and the late models are reliable. This bus can be used for light transport
in the city and. over good country roads. However, the performance is ppor
in hilly country and it falls apart rapidly on rough roods.
Gaz 150 Molotow
( ) 3 tons, operates oin. gasoline. It is a ,QV1KM Polish
army vehicle. It compares poorly with the Ford 6. It breaks down frequently
becaus'a of cheap materials and poor construction.
Gag 50 (Molotowj replace the Willys in the Polish army. It has four drives
ih addition to an overdrive. The wheels are 20cm further apart than kkx on
the Willys. In general, it Man poorly constructed and compares un-
favorably with the Willys.

that they will be completely produced ther, in the latter half of 1952.
The parts of Sovielt type heavy vehicle will be produced in Lublin.
SHL motorcycle,125 ecm displ-cement, is produced at the Ludwik works.
This motorcycle is made so poorly that even private individuals have little
tr.uble in bying it. However, only 60% of the needed units are produced.
MV motorcycle has appeared in large numbers. They are available to certain
private individuals - the so called "work leaders". The price is more
than 12,000 zloty.
BMI4 motorcycle, 350-cm displacement, for which there is a

shortage ofgabout 30 %.
The BM! personal automobile can only be ordered by ministries for thuur
higher officers.

"Motoimport" is 'a division of the Chief Directorate of the CHPM. It s.,
@d foreigh vehiclex imports. Foreign automobiles such as Fiat 1100, Biat
Simca, Citroen, and Packard are numerous in Poland. The U;B and MO investi-
gators use the Ciroen. The SOS located on Slaskich Powstancow Alle in
Aroclaw receives all the ix~m automobiles imported from Czechoslovakia.
These automobiles come froa Ra iudowa Zdroj. They are "broken in " on
the'trip from Czechoslovakia to Poland by a group of chauffeurs from the
Wroclaw CHPM.
