Approved For Release 2005/02/17 : CIA-RDP83-00415R012800030004-2 SECRET German Democratic Republic 25X1 SURPLUS OF BRC3401-COAL TAR Ili, THE GDR 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25XJ 25X1 a conference of representatives of the GDR chemical industry. The purpose of the eo erence was to discuss the reasons for the oversupply of brown-coal tar and the possibilities for the elimination of this surplus. It is stated that the present output of the CDR carbonization plants amounts to 1.6 million tons of brown- coal tar per year, of which 1,0O,0OO tons are processed. One of the major difficulties is that the tar-processing facilities at the GDR chemical plants are inadequate. After discussion 2 5X1 of various proposals for the elimination of the brown-coal tar surplus, data are given on stimates and the planned increase in fuel-production capacities in connection with the cost estimates- necessary construction of additional tar-processing installations. 25X1 25X1 the surplus are: 1) as of 1951, imported crude oil is being processed into benzine, diesel fuel, and fuel oil (which seems to indicate that less emphasis is placed on processing brown- coal tar for these purposes); 2) increasing productivity of the carbonization plants accounts 11 one of the representatives at the abovementione meeting), concerning the brown-coal tar oversupply. The main reasons given for for the greater output of brown-coal tar. 25X1 25X1 25XI 25X1 Approved For Release 2005/02/17 : CIA-RDP83-00415R012800030004-2
