F. AVENESS of the Norwegian Foreign Office to the effect that officials of the State Department had expressed their approval of the scheduled shipment of 50 tons of silicon carbide to Czechoslovakia. Mr. Klaveness has informed an Embassy officer today that this expression of ap.. proval was made by Mr. John T. EVANS and Mr. Robert W. WRIGHT of the Department in recent conversations with Mr. Gunnar %echoslovakia within the near future. In the reference des atch the Embassy conveyed the allem atch, it is likely that 50 tons will be made available to deliveries thus far in 1950 have been made to Russia or to Czechoslovakia, However,, as indicated in the reference des- the entire 12 months of 1949, reflecting the fact that the company sold a larger percentage ' of the costlier abrasive grades in the more recent period. Attention is also invited. to the fact that the distribution of sales by countries of destination recorded in the attached tabulation is based on tonnage rather than value. It will further be noted that no 11 months of 1950 is greater, than the total value of sales for .ttention to the fact that the value of sales for the first TAD.
