1. A barbed wire entanglement, 50 meters long, has been put up on the highway
from Reinthal (48/2N, 16"509E) towards Breclav, Czechoslovakia, about
1500 meters northeast of the Reinthal customs house, The entanglement
begins on the right edge of the road ditch on highway Nos 47, and runs
across the road toward the northwest. A 10-meter strip of woods on the
left has been cleared adjacent to the wire. The entanglement is L2
meters high and 3 meters wide at the bottom. Behind the entanglement
is a. sand strip about 1.2 meters wide.
2 A single layer barbed wire entanglement, 2 meters high and about 25
meters long, has been put up between Luden (48"540N, 15"351E) and Vratenin
(48"541N, l54368E), Czechoslovakia.
3., Late: in August 1952 Czech, border units began stringing up a barbed wire
b.7rrier, 1.5 meters. high, about 700 meters southwest of Jeemenice. (48?_45 oN,
'16 07 E), near border marker 53/VIII It runs eastward from that point
and lies inside the 7-meter border strip. On the western end of the
unfinished barrier, on Czech territory, there is an acacia wood stretching
fcr about 3(}O meters-along the border,
4. Late in August 1952 a single layer barbed wire entanglement, 1- meters high
and about 8 meters long, was put up diagonally across the Znaimerstrrasse,
which runs from Unter-Markersdorf (48?43QN, 16?06RE) to the highway leading
north to Uyjakovicky. The barrier lies inside the 7-meter strip parallel
to the border. About 10 meters behind the barrier there is a road block
2 meters high and about 8 meters wide which was put up in 1947,
5? A barbed wire entanglement, 2 meters high and 300-400 meters long, was put
up along the Austro-Czech border, running at distances of 10-60 meters
from the border in the area of the Rothmuehle (48057?N, 15?28?E) and the
Thaya River. Work was in progress from 28 August until 1 September 1952.
i- A strip of ground, 21 meters long, and 10 meters wide, has been plowed up
along the March (MnrgVa) River near Yarchagg (48'17'N,, 16'55?E)?, It rum.3 from
the Thebensee (48 16QN, 16581E) railroad station, about 300 meters from
tl-, river; southward to the Marchegg-Devinska Nova Ves (48*131N, 16"59%E) 25X1A

railroad line. The bunkers along the March River across from Marchegg
which extend to the railroad line have been camouflaged with sod by
Czech koldiers. Approximately U bunkers have been seen here. A strip
of woods 1 kilometer long and 20 meters wide which runs southward along
the railroad line from W.H. Thebensee (4S?16'N, l.6? 582 E ) has been cleared,
7. On 19 August the Czechs began construction of a surveying tower in
Medenice (48?56'N, W581E) in the Stankauer Forest, about 700 meters
southwest of the Austrian Langauer Forest (48`57'N, 15`OO2E) bordem area.
The tower is about 45 meters high and rises 15 meters above the woods.
It was formerly located at the intersection of two roads, but was moved
on 27 August, just before completion,and relocated a few meters north
of the intersection.
8. On 22 and 23 August 1952 Czech soldiers put up a barbed wire entanglement,
about 1.5 meters high and 20 meters long,, on the Felling (48'52'N, l5"48'E)-
Podmvice (48"53'N, 15-461E) highway. The entanglement, which is strung
up on 4 .:ooden posts, runs along the border 20 meters behind the old road
block which is situated about 30 meters from border marker VIII/6, crossing
the Podmyoe highway? On 3 September the entanglement was lengthened
by 6 raters on each end. Five Czech soldiers have begun surveying from
the Breitau rangers house (48a53'N, l5R'4S1E) to a point about 700 meters
north of the northeast edge of the woods at elevation 453. They have also
begun driving wooden pegs into the growid at intervals of about 50 meters.
This work is being done at distances ranging from 100 to 500 meters from
the border.
