The documents consist of daily operations reports, date Q Oct through I Nov 52,
issued by the Directorate General of the Reichsbahn, and cove ing the period from
16 Oct through 2 Nov 1952. The reports are subdivided by: cars loaded (total of cars
loaded; cars loaded with coal, fertilizer, ore, construction material, cement, potatoes,
grain, sugar beets-. and number of loaded covered cars including tank cars, refrigerator
cars, and box cars); cars uhiLoaded (maximum: 29,711 on 29 Oct 52); operating car park
(maximu4: 97,547 on 22 Oct 52); car turnaround time (minimum: 3.02 days on 16 Oct 52);
number of loaded cars arrived (maximum: 2,753 on Sunday, 2 Nov 52); cars loaded and
loaded arrivals (maximum: 31,283 on 16 Oct 52); damaged car park (maximum: 11,157 on
16 Oct 52); percentage of plan fulfillment by Reichsbahn directorates; backlog of
loaded cars to be dispatched (maximum: 1,858 on Sunday, 2 Nov 52); fuel stocks on
hand Zs-ee belo7; number of cars held over at inspection points; train delays;
and specialindidentso The latter item shows nine accidents during the period covered,
mostly occuo.ng at grade crossings or in switching operations.
The information on fuel stock on hand mentioned above is subdivided by black coal
(including imports), raw brown coal, brown coal briquettes, coke (including imports),
and brown coal dust, Listed are the amount of coal arrived daily including coal for
locomotive operation), amount of coal used (including coal used in locomotive operation),
and total stock on hand. The information indicated that brown coal briquettes are used
to a. larger degree thaii the other types of coal. The average brown coal briquette stock
on hand is 80,000 tons, daily use about 17,000 tons (including about 16,000 tons in
locomotive operation). There is an alrost constant amoxjt of bla.c coal on hand of
about 130,000 tons whereas only about 3,000 tons of it are used daily. The amount of
black coal on hand dropped for two days (28 and 29 Oct 52) by about 107,000 tons which
were not accounted for by reference to the remaining entries.
