Feb 53; Date of information: 25X1X The document consists of 6 typewritten pages containing miscellaneous railroad information as follows: 25X1C The first page, dated 26 November 1952, with heading, contains information about the section of the Northern Belt Line from irkenwer~er to Wuster- mark, The note mentions a proposed transfer station for the S-Bann LBerl n intra- urban rai~oa] at Fiohenne~.endarf for transfer~,-.between the Northern Belt ~in~ and the Line to Or nie~iburg, he note also speaks of a proposed construction of the Northern Belt ~ir~ at Wustermark at an estimated cost of 30 million U~tsche marks in 1953. 25X1C The second page, dated 26 Novembefl 1952, with a heading, contains information regarding a proposed railroad statf~on "Blankenburg-Nord" between Blanken- burg and Ka~+rw on tine Na'thern Belt Line. turnout leads the S-Hahn into the Northern Belt Line at Blankenburg-Nord. 25X1C The third page, dated 9 Lecamber 1952, with a heading, contains information about construction o~ the railroad lin ~ a Puna and Schandau t? the CzechoQ7.ovak border as follows: Section I, the Dresden-Heidenau Puna line was put into double tracked operation on I5 Septn~mber 1952. The Fourth page, dated 11 December 1952, with a hesding~ contains information about four items as follows: Expansion o en ?ngs or Station; construction of passing siding on the Birkenwerder - Brieselang line; changes of the connecting curirres between the Northern Belt Line and the Berlin - Velten line; expansion of the Northern Belt Line in 1953 will_ not be carried beyond the Berlin - Nauen line because of insufficient funds rrhe fifth page is an undated and mr:i.dentified photostat discussing the safety equipment and superstructure material situation. A dire shortage of material, even of signal wire, has forced the Reichsbahn to equip new lines and the outer belt lines of Berlin with manual .y operated switch controls. The source states that railroad men believe that if the material which the GDR lacks is not forthcoming from the ~~iest a smooth efficient operation of the railroad will not be possible. A critical shortage of material .for main$~enance of the superstructure has put track maintenance in a catastrophic condi- tions. .he most severe shortage is that of switches. The sourc?
