SOURCE EVALUATIONS ARE DEFINITIVE. APPRAISAL OF CONTENT IS TENTATIVE.
1. TOS Zebrak National Enterprise in Zebrak (N L9?529 E 13?51.) was built
in 1937 or 1938 and was originally a Vollman factory. The original
machinery is mostly still in use and is in good condition. Perhaps
20 percent of the machines now at the factory have been added since
the war. Power is supplied from Tlustice.
2, The production of the factory is as followss
as TOS S 28 lathes, These replaced the older Vollman-type lathe in 1948;
the Vollman shaping machines -are not produced anymore, TOS S 28 lathes
are probably also produced by TOS Celakovice National Enterprise in
Celakovice (N 50?109 E 14-46). Nothing has been changed in the produc-
tion of these lathes, and details can be learned from any sales catalogue.
According to the factory plan, 100 of these lathes are to be produced
per year; monthly output is about 35.
b. Drills. At the beginning of 1953 a series of V !40 and V 50 type drills
were produced, each of 50 drills. Both these types of drill are single-
headstock,. semirotary electric drills 2.5 to 3 meters high.
e. Small shaping machines, In 1952 and 1953 a series of small shaping
machines was made in the apprentice shop of the factory. The series
was of 50 pieces with a planing length of 300. Both the drills and
shaping machines were intended for domestic use, the latter probably
for the armament industry,
d, Clamps. The factory produces clamps 15 and 25 centimeters long.
e. Machine repairs, The factory repairs all types of machine tools for
small plants which do not have the facilities to repair their own
machineso

3. Since 1951 all the lathes produ c at the factory have been exported.
The lar est number go to the 3,9 and the second largest to China. In
1953 smaller shipments 25X1
were made to v-ariw::..z Satellite sountries. The last s ipment of lathes
was In, 1951, when Ley were all returned because of weak
beds. the great majority of the ]a then go to
Soviet-Bloc countries, as the short length of the bed of these lathes is 25X1
most suitable for manufacture of small infantry weapons. It-:3s for delivery
to the USSR are received and very minutely tested by Soviet officials. Those
sent to other Satellite countries are probably of good quality., as there have
been no complaints.
L. Most of the material used in the factory, such as tools,, paint, sand, coal,,
and coke, arrive by rail at the station in Horovice (N 1.9-50,, g 13-55). Of
the frames for lathes,, 2S percent come from TOS National Enterprise, Holoubkov
Factory,, in Holoubkov (N 49?472 E lb-L42")., and the rest are lade in the Zebrak
plAnt's own foundry. Electric motors come from MEZ or IMEX plants. Steel
rods are brought by rail from the foundries in Kladno to Horovice and thence
by truck to the plant.
5. The factory employs 2,000 workers, including some 300 women. Many of the
workers are skilled men who were trained in this plant. They live in the
surrounding communities. Three shifts are worked daily,, the second 60 percent
and the third 10 percent manned. Piece rates are paid, and working morale is
generally fair. About half the workers are anti,?Communist9 15 to 20 percent
are Communist, and the rest are nominally Communist. An apprentice school is
attached to the plant. It takes in about 40 new apprentices each year and gives
them two years of training.
