Available at the CIA Library is a copy of a file containing preliminary
designs, correspondence, blueprints etc., for the construction of a
development department for flow machinery (Stroemungsmaschinen) of all
types (steam; water, and combustion turbines; turboccmpressors; ventilators)
on the site of the former high pressure teat area (Hochdruckprueffeld) of
the Dresden Turbine Factory (VEH Turbinenfabrik Dresden). This new depart-
ment was to develop equipment not only for the East German power program
but also for export purposes. UP to and including 1955, it was envisaged
that approximately 8,000,000 DNE would be required; for 1956-1957, some
7,000,000 DE more would be necessary. It was hoped that this factory would
bring East German flow machinery construction up to that of other/nations.
