11 Radar and &di n:
At the close of the reporting period, the following radar installations
=ire in position and functioning on the airfield:
At MR 357 971 there was a Token and a Fishnet. The Token was observed in
operation on most days of the reporting period from dawn to dusk, although
quite frequently there were no aircraft airborne from the adjoining
airfield. The VHF disc cone which was formerly visible on this site had
been removed on 10 March.
At MR 347 972 a single Kniferest was situated throughout the reporting
period.
At MR 332 966 there is a VHF site consisting of two single masts,
each about 25 meters in height and spaced about two meters apart.
One mast was surmounted by a modified disc cone with a small round
plate, about 40-50 cm in diameter, above and below the cone, while
the other mast was surmounted by a cage-shaped array which consisted-of
two concentric rings, the upper having a diameter of about 80 cm and the
lower of about 100 cm. There appeared to be a series of wires between the
2 rings. (See sketch.)
At the base of the 2 masts there is an underground bunker from which a
single pair of telephone wires leads back to the overhead telephone
system which adjoins the northern side of the road connecting Randow to
the main Wittstock road. Between this radio site and the road leading to
Randow a new large excavation is being prepared, giving the appdarance
of a new bunker under construction. During the reporting period
there were several changes at this site; at one time as many as five
VHF-type cones were observed, while on ter occasions only one cone
was seen in position. Try? personnel working on this site have be observed
wearing both Soviet air forces uniforms and plain black shoulderboards.
