consumer goodo was to be given priority at tho entererioe. Tho manufacture
of all conoener Leeds wes to take place at the Apel:nnceo Plant (Geraetewe
of the JF. Floor space amounting to 320 sq.n had teen made available. If
additional production facilities vier? needed, individual sections of the
Tube Plant would also be used. A total of 190 prodeetion workers and 23ing
engineers and office personnel wore to be assigned to the production of
consumer goods. A special agency charged with preptJ-inc, the designs for
the items of ennipment to be produced was establisled at the 0, All
consumer goods in the field of high-frequency engineering developed at the
radio engineering elants at Koepenick, Dresden and ,.,eiezig, and the
Geraetework (aluipment Plant) at Thalheim must be releezed for Aduction
by this agency which is headed by Hubl (fnu). The manufacture of a testin
generator for IMF and television operations, a woWee, a tube voltmeter,
and a portable television tool kit and tube tester (Fernsehkundendienstkc
was to be in full owing in the second half of 1955. 1
On 10 March 19550
2. % Schmidt, the technical manager of the Lain Adminieeation for the Radio
and Telecommunication Engineering Industry (IN-RFT) informed the repre-
sentatives of all GDR radio engineering plants tha the fain Administration
could not make available materials reeuired for the iroduction of mass
consumer goods, and the individual radio engineerile plants should
therefore help each other out with surplus material

WF that a project for the enlargement of the televeedon network envisaging
anoutlay of 100 million DUE would shortly be approved be the GDR Council

was scheduled to be erected on the promises of the enterprise.
17" and 21" television tubes wore to be manufactured at the
new workshop, while the 9" tubes wore to be produced on the
fifth floor of the Tube Plant as before. %ietzel, chief of the Tube
Plant, was tn e Prague for 11 days in March 1955 in order to
negotiate there concerning the delivery of bulbs for 17" television
tubes. From , J00 to 5,000 17" television tube bulbs are to
be procured i 7iest Germane.
5 The type ZOO 2 tube was required for the portable television tool
kit and tube ester (Fernuehkundendienstkoffer). Since the Erfurt
radio enginee ine plant was unable to deliver this type of tuhe
before Yolrembee 1955, works manager Mueller ordered that the tube
be developed e the WF and subsequently manufactured there.
6. On 16 Larch i55, Heinrich Rau, Minister of Maclaine Construction,
conferred at the WF with Director Mueller and the chief of the SED
factory group It was believed that the marketing situation of
the firm was liscussed. The sales situation had become critical,
because the ihsR had not placed any new orders and the volume of
domestic orders was rather small. The Geraetewerk on nue Dahnhof Strasse,
whiati a va-rk force of 1,200 was not going to produce to capacity
in the fouih9 h
enarter of 1955. Rau promised that he would visit the SF
again on 23 C7 24 March.
7. At the Leipzie Spring Fair, the uded a act with Red China
for e e eery o ubes of the 6-series valued at 40,000 ru es.
8. At the Leipzie Spring Fair, West German procurement agents wanted to
place an order with the IF for the delivery of 500 sets of four tubes
each if delieeries of these West German type tubes could begin in
'June 1955. Ne agreement was concluded because the WP was unable to guarantei
delivery oftl tubes on time.
9. Some types of decimeter tubes were going to be delivered to the German
postal admini tration.
10. In Larch 1955, of all the equipment sold, about .60 percent were rejected
because of ei,ctrical or mechanical shortcomings. This siTiation was
attributed to sabotage, and a joint S'ID-SD commission inspected the
geraotewerk. The findings of the commission were that the damages had
been caused ether at the final acceptance or the packing process.
11. Yhe mica used at the entererise for the fastening alWinsulating of
tubes was deirver on China. The punched sections were furnished
by the Keramieche Werke a liermsdorf. There were no indications of an
intended replacement of mica by ceramics. Ceramic parts were only used
instead of mica units if the latter were not available. No information
was available on a shortage of mica.
12. In late March 1955, Sancliarski (phonetic spelling), the Soviet
acceptance ofshicial at the WF was recalled.
13. In the first u4rter of 1955, the wage budget of the WF was overdrawn
by 45,000 DVEi In view of this fact' and because the ratio between
prpduotion weekers and employees wee 211.htt about 400 employees were to
be dischargei in Maroh. Notise of cancellation as given to a series of
individual woeli contracts. Main accountant Lehmann wan sent on leave,
allegedly because of poor health, his deputy was discharged because he
lived in West Berlin, and accountant Zabel- fled to West Germany.
