. Available from the CIA Library are diagrams of grinding and lapping machines
for the production of inner and outer races of ball bearings, rollers and
tapered rollers. An interest in the purchase of these machines was expresse
by Polimex of Warsaw.
. The machines sought for were not only to have ground regular rings, but in
particular they were to have ground races for ball bearings. It was not cor
ere adequate if the rings, as shown in diagrams 1 to 17, could have beell
ground parallel, on a slant, or round; it was especially necessary that the
rings grind a cylindrical shape spherically to a minute degree.
, The area of the crown of the ball bearing gives the ball bearings a small amount
of play or clearance, which, almost immeasurably small, must be present. The
attaining Or this exact clearance has developed in individual factorise that
conStrtierVtlair own grinding machines or rebuild these machines in accordance
with their experience. The grinding machine, therefore, is a veritable secret
in evert ball bearing factory.
. The Poles can probably get regular grinding machines. They cannot, however,
obtain, any grinding machines for ball bearing races sinee a machine that grinds
W1 bearing races is of a different nature having different specifications.
Thee* Specifications are not included in readily available grinding machines
marketed by. the factories.
The owner of the Jungl firms who was oontacted in regard to the sale of these
machines stated that the country interested in the purchase of these machines was
interested in the manufacture of ball bearings for tanks. The diagrams show that
the ball bearings in question, as considered by the Germans, are for tank production.
