flying a flag with two stripes. The stripe on the top was red and that on the bottom
white. There was a five-pointed star in the red portion of the flag. The Sub-

almost vertical. The deck had no superstructure whatsoever. The stern fell away
at an angle and often something became visible immediately behind the perpendicular.
The submarine was about 50 meters away and no sounds were heard, but there was an
exhaust smoke coming out from the side of the deck just before the point where the
deck began to slant down toward the stern. From the horizontal view the conning
tower was constructed in the form of a drop. It was about the height two men and
about square in the vertical view; however, the uppermostI.ortion ab one-half
on the leads e d g e , was slightly curved inwards.- .7- There were no guns of any kin se-on a er on the deck or on the tower.
There three men in the tower who could only be distinguished from the chest
up. submarine was on its way toward Gdynia.
