The training takes place aboard the training divisio T boats and minelaying vessels. In minelaying vessels =they mainly instruct cadets from "Schwedenschanze." The same is the case aboard the flagship "Ernst Thalmann" which has its permanent. place in Sassnitz. Shooting Area for KVP-See "Adler Grund" and Tromper Wiek. KVP-See has the Following Signal Stations: a. Tarnewitz, Dornbusch, Arkona, Stubbenkammer, Sassnitz, and Greifswalder Oie. b. In Stubbenkamm.er there is a radio station and they train signal officers from Sassnitz and signal personnel here. c. The other signal stations have no radio installation. d. Every passing vessel that belongs to KVP-See must transmit passing-report to the signal station. Training in KVP-See a. The new students are instructed in the basic conditions of of the military training such as march drills, military courtesy, in groups, platoons, and in companies and later with carbines. b. The training takes place in groups of 10 men who are led by a recently appointed section leader. c. Four groups make up a platton which is led by a platoon commander who almost always is a non-commissioned officer: with special training. d. 4 platoons make up 1 company. e. After training with carbines (Russian), the different companies are separated for special instruction, for example as follows: lst company: mechanical engineering. 2nd company: radio. 3rd company: artillery. 4th company: obstruction mechanics, etc. f. Each platoon has its permanent teacher in the individual courses until examination time. Train- ing in putting off and coming alongside quay. c) They learn about the shore line, navigation marks, light houses, and carrying of lights. 9. a. The vessels usually sail in divisions; it is seldom that one vessels sails alone or in groups of 2-3. Before the sail, the route is determined by the chief and the mate personnel or according to the staff's instructions, exact determination of courses, anchorage, ports of call. The routes are in the BtLltic Sea's usual routes, mainly around Hagen through Greifs.walder Bodden. In bad weather, i.e. strong wind, Greiitvalder Bodden is used as trai.ing area. b. Ports of call and night anchorage are Sassnitz, Pennemunde, more-seldom X.ostock, ~iolgast, and ~Tismar. Night anchorages are: Off Dornbusch, Tanngellen ?, the approach buoy Tarne- munde 1, and off Heringsdorf. c. They hardly ever sail at night, only under the fall maneuvers.' d. When the vessels pass a signal station, they have to make a passage report which is ciphered. e. Since the vessels sail together in a division, they have to act according to the division chief's instructions and not act independently. These instructions are given via signals, only seldom via radio since the radio service is not intended for this. f. The crews have 4 hours' service aboard, i.e. 4 hours' ser- vice, 4 hours' rest. g. They keep a navigation log and a ship log. In the naviga- tion log they enter all alterations of course, position determinations. In the ship log they enter meetings with other ships, service plan, all unusual events. h. Nothing ever happens on the trips which always take place in the same territory., and the work is always the same. Therefore, the crews become indifferent and lose their zest for working. The sailing trips are only made in order to make the crews used to the work and the s4a. i.. The often have maneuvers, such as attacks of single vessels, defense, formation sailing. The Platoon Commander or his deputy decided which boat is going to be the leading boat. 11. When the vessels come alongside the quay in the harbor, guards are set out immediately. 1 guard on the quay and 1 on the boat (on the deck). The guard aboard the boat is only seldom armed; if he is, it is with a pistol P 38. The guard on the quay has a carbine. These guards are there as long as the boats are in the harbor. When the vessels are anchored, the following guards are set out: 1 on. the signal deck, 1 on the bridge, 1 by the anchor. Relief every second hour.
