During the period of September -October 1955, a very large scale military
draft took place in North Korea for the first time since the armistice..
All males, whose ages ranged from 18 to 2~., were drafted. Railroad
employees, heretofore deferred from draft, were also inducted into the
armed forces 'thi:s time, like college students.l
