Construction Setback at the Izberbash Oil Combinate/Camps for German POW's.

in the Bashkir Autonomous S.S.A. (late February 1953), 25X1
jet engines are being produced on the assembly-line in the Chernikovsk Combinate
north of Ufa. the average monthly production of engines for 25X1
'TU' aircraft is 1 0 to 200. The Chernikovsk Combinate is one of those Soviet in-
dustrial centers of which no mention is made in the press.
2. The Soviet fishing fleet operating out of Odessa is actually engaged in radar and
atomic experiments. The fleet known as Slava is in Antarctic waters. It includes
two vessels equipped with radar and atomic laboratories. Captain (fnu) Solannik
is in charge of the fleet. (fnu) Boev is the political officer. The vessels are
armed, and all the sailors are Party men:.
3. Several new tanks and pumping stations collapsed in Decbmber 1952 at the Izberbash
Oil Combinate in the Eastern Caucasus. It has been generally assumed that rapid,
shoddy construction work was responsible for the disaster. The whole area is
under military control
technical help was flown in from Groznyj and dispatched by sea from Baku. 1bAl
4. A number of telephone and telegraph cables were destroyed in January 1953 in the
Aras River valley. The cables served radio centers in local kolkhozes. Five
centers were put out of commision. A special commissar of the MVD, (fnu)Bederijan,
has been conducting investigations.
A group of 20 isolated camps housing German prisoners of war is located along the
Kama River in the Chistopol Oblast. As of January 1953 these camps were still
full of Germans. German prisoners of war are also held in camps in Elyabuga on 25X1
Kama River and in Manzelinsk, between the rivers Ilch and BelayaI'.
