Available on loan from the CIA Library are photocopies of the following:
1. A review in English of Vol I No 12 (December 1952) issue of AMA-
TERME RADIO (The Amateur Radio) with editorial comments by a
translator who is familiar with radio ham operations. This re-
view covers changes in requirements and procedures under the
third reorganization of the Czechoslovak Amateur Radio organiza-
tion since 1948; comments on Soviet amateur activities; and me.;-
tions additional frequencies alloted to Czech amateurs. co
2. A review in English of Vol II No 1 (January 1953) issue of
TERSKE RADIO (The Amateur Radio) with editorial comments by the4
same translator. This review covers the contents of an edi-
torial concerning "the slow progress of the Sovietization ofcv
Czechoslovak amateur radio" and lists some of the most impor-
tant code abbreviations used by the Soviet hams in their com-
munications in addition to the usual Q code. (In this connec-
tion the translator stated: "Since these abbreviations are
completely different from those used so far in international
amateur communications, I believe some of these might be useful
for the monitoring of international traffic of the Soviet hams
or their contacts with the hams in the Iron Curtain countries.
The majority of these are abbreviated Russian words ad expres-
sions.")
3. A review in English of Vol II No 4 (April 1953) issue of ANATER-
SKE RADIO (The Amateur Radio) with editorial comments by the
same translator mentioned above. This review covers classifica-
tion norms for Soviet hams, i.e., the description of the quali-
fications necessary for each of the classifications given to So-
viet hams in terms of their proficiency.
