of towns near military encampments was especially good.
2. There were no idle soldiers seen. If not engaged in military training,
they were kept busy at useful work such as road maintenance.
3. The whole organization is built around Chiang Kai Shek and his picture
is displayed everywhere. . had to wonder what would happen if he were

1.. Among all the people contacted, from small shopkeepers to important
business men, heard much praise of Japanese conduct during occupation.
It left a definite impression that their return would be welcome.
