Q. Do you know of any instances of resistance in the field of medicine to Western Ideas and practices? 2. A. I have heard no doctors from the countries of the Near East and Far East who have had the opportunity to see and evaluate the treatment and diagnosis employed by the Western medical profession say that they oppose these ideas and practices. From these doctors I have heard statements that their practice of medicine, both as to treatment and diagnosis, is from 15 to 25 years behind that which is practiced in the US. I know this to be true from my own visits in 1950 to Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The doctors from these areas have told me that if they had laboratories,, and other diagnostic facilities, and the teohni- cians, they, too* would be practicing their profession in the Western way. 3. Last fall,, a prominent doctor and professor of medicine from East pikist ' told me that he was going to do everything within his power to doaway'~ Acceptances in the Field of Medicine of RETURN To C11 L !BRA R Y Approved For Release 1999/09/10 : CIA-RDP83-00423R000901240001-4 Approved For Release 1999/09/10 : CIA-RDP83-00423R000901240001-4 /a < 6i 9* ~fec/t=a Z' 1 ris A U tbaft WIM b1c a tr Approved For Release 1999J09/10 : CIA-RDP83-00423R000901240001.-4
