DESCRIPTION OF MATERIAL
(a). Nababeep Mine. Town, Nababiep, is company owned. Smelter is on left.
Lower'center is the power station. Lower right are warehouses and shops. Mill
operates seven days, mine operates six days. Black top road goes eight miles
west to O'okiep.
(b) Nababeep Mine. There is an underground tunnel from the smelter to the
stack. Left is the power plant, right is the smelter. Foreground: Shops and
warehouse plant are built on a slag dump. Upper right is the headframe,
(c) O'okiep looking east. Right: power plant; foreground: acid plant; mill
and mine in the rear,
(d) Native compound at Nababeep; 1500 natives thrive here in single bliss,
(e) Acid plant at East O'okiep mine; 200-225 tons of Cu are produced per
month by leaching, and 40 short tons per day of H2604 @ 60 .
(f) Staff houses at 0' okiep. Power station inx upper left.
(g) Wheal Julia Concordia, Ore is transported by truck to O'okiep--20 to 25
thousand tons per month. Shaft is 1200' deep with approximately a five ton

(h) Swimming pool was completed in 1953. Club house at right of pool.
Other buildings are European staff houses.
(i) O'okiep--sulphuric acid plant looking east,
(j) Nababeep, looking east. U-shaped building on the right is the office.
Lower left is the power lant. Right center: shops and warehouse; smelter
is just above the power plant and the mill is in the upper left. Upper
right is the old glory hole,
(k) Headframe for the Nababeep mine Town of Nababiep is in the background.
Please note that the mine is spelled Nababeep and the town Nababiep. This
is the African spelling for the town. The company uses the two "e"'s for
the mine. View is looking west.
(1) Nababeep mill and smelter. In 1953 the smelter turned out 27 thousand
short tons of blister copper. This was from all four mines. Only three
mines are operating in 1955.
