Most of the high government officials in Slovakia appear to be political newcomers who were largely even unheard of before the rtshufflings of officials under the Communists. 2. Jan Marcelly, currently the Slovak Commissioner of the Food Industry, is very likely the Jan Marcelly whose name was pronounced with a certain fear during the years 1946-48. He played an important role in the Slovak 5X1X6 Secret Police but what his function. or duties were. This Jan Marcelly was a professional soldier and was known as an ardent communist. The fact that he apparently now ends as Commissioner of the Food Industry, a field about which he knows nothing, indicates to me that he is in decline. 3. The Commissioner of Justice Juraj Uhrin, may be the former lawyer of the Bataworks in Batisovce in Slovakia whom I met only once. He was a strong 'tBataman't- - which means he advocated private initiative in the economy. I know nothing of his present political attitudes. 25X1X6 4+. Pavol MaJl1gj was considered as a communist theoritician as was his former boss Dr Branik . Branik, also a zealous communist practioner, has apparently terminated his political career. Perhaps he disappeared as "tguilty" in one of the last purges or the ravages of advanced tuberculosis may have forced his withdrawal from public life.
