OF PAGES 1 N0.OFENCLS. 25X1X SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT tt 1. The Conference on Cultural Freedom in Asia, held in Rangoon, Burma, from 17-20 February 1955 was sponsored by The Congress for Cultural Freedom and the Society for the Extension of Democratic Ideals whose headquarters are in Paris. The Conference began, as all such conferences usually do, with heated denunciations of the "Imperialist Colonial Powers" who had "held our lands in slavery for so many years". The Ceylonese delegates were the worst in this respect. The Indian and Philippine delegates finally rose, however,, and pointed out that these "Imperialists" had done a lot for their countries. 2. Every Asian country east of Afghanistan, except Communist China, had delegates at the conference. Papers were presented and the usual discussions were held.. The conference delegates were definitely an anti-Communist group. -/Available on file in the CIA Library is a photostat of the program of the conference and a list of delegates] - End. - TYRE ACT ~OATE INFO-UR-GATE AREA P~ ?~ y ~ Ali JUL - -. - - - -E-N T-I-A-L I DISTRIBUTION STATE ARMY NAVY AIR FBI NOFORN NO DISSEM ABROAD F I LIMITED- nDnisse~miin t'n li a to fall- " ~]~jI of F ^ b 1 f91~}~ t~ 1jeie e, to the intelligence components, other offices proH>srinOg fe7e it rit3 ~i h4i If~I6rIM t&r it~di s 3 001A `lii?s minated to consultants, external projects or reserve personnel on short term active duty (excepting individuals who are normally full-time employees of CIA, AEC, FBI.
