DATE: 3 June 1964
The bureau's weekly coverage decreased 8 hours and 20 minutes
during May because of normal seasonal deterioration of reception.
The Vladivostok Television Audio channel on 56.25 mcs was-
intercepted on 21 May for the first time since it was initially
heard on 1 October 1963. The signal was audible at varying times
throughout the remainder of the month and periodic cruising is
being continued.
B. Editorial
a. Abstract and wirefile wordage totaled 119,855; the number of
economic abstracts was 800.
b. There were no teletype outages.

a. Two projects were initiated during the month aimed at temporarily
solving the bureau's shortage of family housing. A. private
rental two-man BOQ unit will be remodeled into a three-bedroom
apartment. A quonset structure adjacent to the present housing
area, handed over to FBIS by the Army for permanent retention,
will be remodeled by the Post Engineers to provide another three-
bedroom unit.
b. Preparation of the exteriors of present housing units for
repainting was begun by the Post Engineers. The past winter's
unusually severe snow and ice conditions caused extensive
blistering and flaking of paint, and left large areas of raw
wood exposed on all four duplex units.

Memorandum
TO : Chief, Engineering Staff, FBIS
FROM : Electronic Technician, Hokkaido Bureau, IBIS
DATE: 26 MAY, 1964
1.
SUBJECT: Equipment and Facilities Report
The following developments regarding bureau equipment and facilities
are brought to your attention:
(a)
Two Model 28 KSR teletype machines were received, assembled and
. placed in service. One is being used as the receive machine in the
teletype room, the other, with' the addition of the Cyrillic type
basket also received, has replaced the Model 15 machine formerly
used in conjunction with the
radiosteletype
rack.
STAT
(b)
Regarding your letter to
filter capacitors for modification
o
dated 17 April, 1964, the two
he prototype Monitoring Amplifier/
Control Panel power supply were received and installed in the unit.
It was determined by experimentation that an increase of 1000 uf
to the output of the filter did not appreciably reduce the hum level.
(The input capacitor of the unit already contained 2000 uf.) A
practically negligible hum level was achieved by paralleling the
2000 uf across the input capacitor and paralleling the 3000 uf across
the original output 2000 uf capacitor.
